This book provides the history of a hospital which was built 25 years ago in an area which had the worst health provision in the country and is now a University Foundation NHS Trust. It has been highly successful in meeting all its targets, yet has balanced its books every year since 1993. The story covers the struggle to have a new hospital; it looks at the facilities which used to exist and traces the history of the last 25 years. In addition it looks at how diseases have changed, how their management has changed and how the management of the NHS has altered. It looks at the changing health service of the last 25 years through the perspective of a District General Hospital and those who work in it and looks to the future.
